About Us

From our offices in Macclesfield and Romiley, ScanTech International provides an engineering site survey consultancy providing accurate as-built data within the built environment and across a wide spectrum of market sectors including Nuclear, Energy, Process, Water, Buildings and Transport. Our culture is to listen and understand the needs of our customers and the end users of the data and to jointly develop a solution that is appropriate to the needs of the project

We were one of the first five companies in the UK to purchase a portable laser scanner in 2002. This was the Cyrax which was later re-branded as the HDS 2500 by Leica. This was at the time a state of the art scanner capturing 1,200 points per second over a 40° x 40° field of view and taking 20 minutes per scan. Contrast that with our latest RTC360 scanner which captures 2,000,000 points per second, has a 360° x 310° field of view and takes 30 seconds per scan.

Over the 17 years of laser scanning we have developed an unsurpassed expertise in this area having developed unrivalled abilities such as capturing the inside running edge of rails – a difficult task as it is a virtual position.

Our 25+ years background in the process/nuclear engineering environment means we understand the requirements of the different disciplines for site surveys and we draw on our extensive range of techniques, skills, experience and technology to provide solutions to many survey problems including complex 3-D structures that defy conventional survey techniques. Since our start-up 17 years ago we have developed a particular expertise in all aspects of Laser Scanning and 3D modelling including Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Our two Directors, MD Keith McCrory and Technical Director Tim Rothwell have a wealth of experience in the process pharmaceutical and rail industries.

Keith has extensive UK and international experience in Project Management, Design, Construction and Commissioning with particular emphasis on team leadership, change management, alliance/partnering set-up and operations and risk management in a range of process industries and his last position being Head of Projects for Amec before starting up ScanTech International with Tim in 2002. He has developed many new clients for Scantech in the process, architectural and rail sectors as well as managing the HSE for, and profitability of, the Company.

Tim has many years of varied experience within the process and rail industries using and implementing many different technologies. During his five years as a CAE consultant within AMEC he had the opportunity to implement and apply new technologies which greatly improved the efficiency of the process group. Since co-founding Scantech International he has been able to provide high technology solutions to traditional problems across many industry sectors which have offered significant cost benefits and added value to our clients business’s.

Due to our culture of working with our clients to produce outstanding results we see a large percentage of our workload from repeat business and word of mouth from satisfied customers and would welcome the opportunity to discuss any new requirements you may have.
